Are you trying to make money online? If you are, you better have your most wanted response ready then.

Did I just see a question mark above your head? You have no idea what that is? Then this is the post for you!

What is a most wanted response?

In plain words it is “what you want people to do on your blog”.

Your most wanted response can be people clicking on your affiliate links and buying products, leaving their e-mails when they subscribe to your newsletter or hire you for a service you are offering.

Every post you write should have a most wanted response. If you don’t have one, your visitors will just leave the blog after reading the post. Or best case scenario, they will wonder around. But without MWR on any of your pages, they will eventually just leave.

Why should you have a most wanted response on your blog? If you are blogging for money (or hoping you will do it one day), most wanted response is what helps bring the money.

With a MWR “assigned” to everything you do, you will get to the money part faster.

Let me digress a bit here. I’ve read a lot of posts on how to get more comments. Don’t get me wrong, I love them and use those tips a lot. I love getting a lot of comments. But if you are building your blog to make money, comments alone won’t do that for you.

So, instead of making your most wanted response “getting more comments” you should have in mind another MWR – “make money”.

Now, although your main MWR for a blog should be “make money” you should have a more specific MWR for every post you write.

Also, this works the other way around too. If you have a MWR in plan, there is a certain kind of post you should write to get it. How to know what is your most wanted response for different pages? Different types of blogs offer different types of services so they need to adjust their posts accordingly. It will depend on how you monetize your blog as a whole or how you monetize specific parts of it.

Why do you write a sales page? To sell. So what is your MWR there? You want people to click on “add to cart” button and buy your product.
Why do you write a review page? You want to show people why they should spend money on the product/service you are reviewing. So your MWR will probably be for them to click your affiliate link and buy.
You want more subscribers? You will create a sign-up page and tell people why should they give you their e-mails.

Is there a MWR for your front/home page? YES! You want people to dig deeper into your blog.

MWR doesn’t always have to be to make more money. You can even have a MWR where you will want visitors to go and see another blogger’s blog.

Always have in mind that everything you do, can and should have a most wanted response attached to it. What not to do? What would be a completely wrong thing to do when it comes to a most wanted response. Distraction!

If you have a sales page where MWR is (of course) for your visitors to buy, you will never add a “Visit our Facebook fan page” to the top of your post. Why? Because it will take your visitors away from the page and away from the sale.

Call to action

All this is basically explaining that you need a call to action on your blog. That call will get your most wanted response.

You need to be clear about what you want people to do. If you are selling a product your call for action will be “add to cart” button. Add more than one of those. Give people the chance to do what you want them to do.

How will you know if you are doing it right?

You need to track your results and then analyze them. If you are not selling anything, your sales page is not working. Change it!

If you are getting some sales but think you can do better, do a test. Change the page and see if you get more sales. Tracking two or more different pages should give you enough data to analyze it and decide what works the best.

In case something is not really working there is only one thing to do – flush it down the toilet. Start over.

And just one note for the end – even if it is working good, try to improve it, because you can always do better!

How to Deal With Blogger’s Block

Ever start thinking up ideas for a blog post only to find that everything your mind can conjure is really lame? I have, and most anyone who’s honest with themselves has too. But have no fear, there is a way around these problems, and here are a few I’ve found works for me!

First you can always try something that I wrote about on my blog — trying to come up with 100 ideas for blog posts in 15 minutes or less. If you give this a go, you’re sure to come up with some ideas, even if the first ones out the door aren’t keepers.

Talk to someone about the problem. Once you admit that you’re stuck, sometimes talking to someone can be a great help. Sometimes they may not even have the best ideas themselves, but talking to someone can help you get the ball rolling in your own head and get out of your rut.

Take a walk or go for a jog. What mystical powers moving your legs has on your ability to think out blog posts has eludes me, but the fact of the matter remains that it works. And by no means should you ever try to force the ideas, that will get you nowhere fast. Just let the thoughts flow naturally and soon you should have something, just bring something to record it with so that you don’t forget by the time you get back.

Try Freewriting. Freewriting is the bizarre task of writing whatever comes into your head as fast and ridiculously as possible. Sometimes I just end up writing about how I can’t think of anything to write, but sometimes this task can help grease the cognitive wheels and get you running again.

Sit down and just do it. Yeah, this is the one that everyone likes to close their ears to and hope desperately will go away if you ignore it long enough, and I can’t say that it isn’t tempting for me either. But an important facet of blogging is consistency, so sometimes you’ll have to bite the bullet and grind out a post as the writing machine screeches and groans in protest. You’ll have to accept that sometimes you won’t write a real knock-out of a post, but even Babe Ruth didn’t hit a home run every time he went to bat. If you worry too much about making perfect blog posts every time, you’ll rarely get even one done.

In my profession as a writer, I’ve learned a lesson about this as well. Sometimes I’ll write a blog post that I think is the 16th Chapel of blogging, only for it to be rejected. Other times, I’ve submitted a post with a sigh and shame over the quality, and end up having it accepted. Though this I’ve found that your own opinion simply isn’t always the most accurate, so it’s usually best to simply submit it and see what happens than end up fusing over getting something just right.

The Importance of Gay Blogs in a Healthy Blogosphere

A few years ago when I first started hearing the term “gay blog”. My mind went to a strange place. A place that made blogs living and breathing creatures. I had images of young blogs telling their old parent blogs they were gay. I also went pulled up some kind of crazy image of a gay club. The wording of this term just does not seem to fit in my head. Amazingly enough, this is not what these blogs are about.

Simply put, a gay blog is designed for use by people who are same sex sexually oriented. Gay bashings and politics do appear on some of these blogs. The variety of blogs out there for gay people are astounding. Gay people may have the same sexual orientation but they do not have the same interest. There are blogs online for people of every possible interest some are designed for heterosexuals others for homosexuals.

Contrary to popular belief not all gay blogs are about sex. Of course some are, some straight blogs are about sex does that mean they all are? No. A blog is a blog it may be designed for a certain set of people. The author of the blog is gay this does not translate to pervert. A great many perverts are straight.

One popular niche blog titled wicked gay blog is funny but does have news included. Most of the news on the site is about gay rights in The United States and around the world. The author of this blog has a wicked sense of humor and seems to enjoy using their humor as much as possible. It does not hurt that they are good writers and keep everything light and entertaining. He also seems to have a never ending supply of ideas for new blog topics or just new pictures that are oh so fun to peek at from time to time.

Steve Charing Out spoken is another example of a gay blog. This particular blog is all about politics mainly in Maryland but around the country also. He speaks out for the gay community and believes gay rights are a major issue in modern society. His blog is neither funny, nor sexual it is all about the facts and his triumphs and failures as he fights for gay rights.

David Hyde Pierce, also known as Niles Crane even has a blog expressing his anger over California repelling the right for gay marriage. He and his partner have been together for 25 years and in the brief two weeks gay marriage was legal in the state the pair wed. Pierce is still angry about the state removing the law. He speaks out but does not want to draw mass media attention.

Celebrity or the neighbors dog walker may have a gay blog. The Internet allows for secrecy when needed but gives you a voice to speak up or speak out. That is what many gay blogs do. They may be for fun but they are also a way for the author to express themselves and this holds true for many different types of blogs not just gay blogs.

Gay blogs are not what they sound like the are blogs designed for the gay community. Blogs themselves have not developed a sexual preference. These blogs do not have to be about sex, they can be about any topic that the author chooses to write about.

Politics is a popular issue but gay clubs in New York or Cleveland for that matter may be the topic of a gay blog that is floating around out there in cyber space. Go visit a gay blog and then decide what you think but remember there are thousands out there and some are hysterically funny, others are on much more serious topics.

Moving WordPress To Another Host

If you are moving hosts and have a WordPress installation, it can be a bit tricky to get your WordPress moved over to the new host. Don’t fret because this is possible to do. These instructions are assuming that you new host has cPanel.

The first thing you need to do is download your WordPress install from your old host. Grab the entire folder and put it on your hard drive as this will be easier. You will be getting all the themes and plugins that you need to use on the new host in one simple step.

Also download your database. The easiest way to do this is to use the WordPress Database Backup plugin and download it. You may need a program called 7 zip to open the file format that it downloads with.

Next install WordPress to your new host. Use the same directory, name, and password to make things easier on you. Do this the same way that you did before to make sure that you don’t run into any unexpected errors.

Upload your theme and plugins that you had just backed up into your new host. At this point you are still missing all your posts, comments, and settings. But this problem can be fixed very quickly.

In your cPanel use the program called phpMyAdmin. You will see one database there that ends with wrdp or something similar with about 10 entries in it. Click on that. Then import that database that you backed up. This should be the text file and not the “tar.gz”. This will make it so all your old posts and settings are in place.

One issue you may deal with is that you had a newer version of WordPress on your new host. Your plugins may have to be updated to work with the new version of WordPress. Otherwise this should help you move hosts without issue. Don’t expect to have it all be perfectly smooth, but in general this process works well.
