As a blogger, you’ve probably run into this brick wall. I know I have many times. What happens is you decide that today is the right time to put together a new blog post. It might be that you feel that your blog is neglected. It might be that you’re just ready to write the post. But, despite all this you just haven’t got a good idea for what this post should be about. How do you get around this? In this article I’m going to share some little known or little used sources that will immediately help you to get more blog post ideas.
The first place you should look is on your blog itself. Look for the most popular topics of all time. The reason for this is simple. These are already proven areas that your readers are interested in and want to discuss. Because of this, you know that your next post will show a lot of interest. Scan through the posts or comments and look for the one or two lines that stand out or have caused debate. Use these as the basis for a new post which takes a different direction to the original one.
If that doesn’t work, or isn’t appropriate for your needs on a particular day, hit the forums in your niche. You’re going through a really similar process. In this case, find the topics that are getting discussed the most, as these are clearly areas that interest readers. Scan through the posts and you’ll come up with some ideas of points to make. I’m definitely not talking about stealing content. Just use this as a base. That way, you’re writing about a popular area, but your own thoughts are going on your blog, where they are most valuable for you.
Want to know a really radical tactic? This one works. You need to go offline. Grab the magazines in your niche, or even a weekend newspaper (one with lots of supplements). Read through that. There are so many good ideas in any offline publication that you’ll find not one, but multiple blog posts all ready and waiting for you to write them.
Never worry about not having a good blog post idea waiting every again. Just use these little known or otherwise underused sources. Start off online using the best resources, such as your own blog and forums in the niche. Then move offline. Avail yourself of publications and look through these to get ideas. Merge together these possibilities and you can have an excellent and content filled blog.
