Blogging has become the modern social diary, but is it for you? This is a hard to answer question, but I will try to help steer you toward the answer as easily as possible. Since blogs have become such an ingrained part of the world today, almost everyone has either started one or is thinking of doing so. Yet, there are millions of blogs scattered around the internet which have been completely abandoned by writers who realized it just wasn’t their thing.
What Blogging Takes
Starting a blog should not be something you take lightly. The posts may be short and sweet, but they are not always quick or easy to write. If you want to be successful as a blogger you have to devote yourself wholeheartedly to posting on a daily or near daily basis. Back up here. You can’t just post daily. You have to post highly compelling, enlightening, engaging posts day after day. That is what makes you worth bookmarking and checking up on regularly.
There are millions of social diary personal blogs out there that never get viewed by anyone or that never get a second viewing by anyone. This often happens when the posts are too infrequent, too dull and bland, or simply unreadable. It is a waste of your time to blog if you are going to put up poor quality. You have to dedicate yourself to coming up with something unique and interested at least a few times a week.
Also, those blog posts must be tightly focused on your subject. You must know how to incorporate the right keywords naturally without stuffing them in there. You must take the time to read and interact with other bloggers in your niche. You must know the difference between linking another blog or site and stealing content. You must know how to find images legitimately. You must know how to design a visually pleasing blog page.
You simply have to keep up with the blogging community as a whole so you always know what is going on!
If that sounds intimidating or like too much work, then chances are you won’t make a dedicated, passionate blogger. That is essentially what a very successful blogger is: dedicated to the mission and full of passion for what is being discussed.
Blogging Skills
That rather lengthy paragraph above that stated some of the things you have to know or keep track of when keeping a blog may sound intimidating, but if you are a true blogger at heart it is rather exciting and interesting. The only real skills you need to initially get started with your blog is the sincere commitment to building that blog long term and a passion for the subject so that you don’t run out of steam or lose interest too quickly.
Everything else you can learn as you go along. Let me leave you with 5 quick signs that you should absolutely start a blog:
1. You are extremely passionate about one subject.
2. You have very unique knowledge or experience that few others can deliver.
3. You have something that absolutely must be shared with others, somehow someway.
4. You see a huge hole that other bloggers are neglecting on a subject you know a lot about.
5. You are a professional in your area and have tons of valuable information to share with others.
